Samsung Announces 16-megapixel Galaxy S4 zoom

Following in the footsteps of the Galaxy Camera, Samsung has announced the Galaxy S4 zoom, a smartphone equipped with a massive 16-megapixel shooter and a 10x optical zoom lens.

The latest device to join Samsung's Galaxy S4 line, the zoom features a CMOS sensor, optical image stabilization, and a Xenon flash. Included with the camera / phone is the company's new Zoom Ring, which can be used to quickly send photos to whomever you're talking to with the help of the In-Call Photo Share feature.

On the smartphone side of things, the Galaxy S4 zoom uses a 4.3-inch 960 x 540 Super AMOLED display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and is equipped with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz. To help hold all of those photos, the zoom comes with 8GB of on-board storage (actual free space listed at 5GB) plus microSD card support up to 64GB.

As far as size is concerned, the zoom is 15.4-mm deep and weighs 208g, compared to the standard Galaxy S4's 7.9-mm and 130g body.

Pricing for Samsung's Galaxy S4 zoom has yet to be announced. According to CNET, the device will be available in the UK this summer, with a release in the United States and the rest of Europe planned for the fourth quarter of this year.

Including the zoom, Samsung's current line of smartphones include the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 mini, and the Galaxy S4 Active.
