Atlus Teaser Site Hints at Persona Announcement in November

Atlus has launched a new teaser website for what may be a Persona-related announcement of some sort coming in November.

The website, located at p-ch.jp, is home to very little at the moment beyond three empty boxes and a time and date: November 24, 2013 at 8 p.m. JST (which equates to 3 a.m. Pacific / 6 a.m. Eastern on November 24). What's most interesting is that alongside the Atlus logo is the logo for the Persona team, perhaps suggesting the long-awaited Persona 5 will be announced at that time.

The most recent release in the Persona series, Persona 4, was released on PlayStation 2 in 2008, before being re-released on PlayStation Vita last year as Persona 4: Golden. A fighting game spin-off, Persona 4: Arena, launched in arcades and on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 last year as well.

Rumors in 2009 that Persona 5 would be announced for PlayStation 3 never panned out, though the game was reportedly in development at least as early as 2011. More recently, a Persona 5 domain name was registered in June, although that one -- persona5.jp -- is much more overt about its purpose than the one for the new teaser site.

With the exception of the first game in the series and Persona 4: Arena, each game in the Persona series has been exclusive to PlayStation platforms. Whether that trend will continue with the next game in the series remains to be seen. This announcement coming after both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launches shouldn't cause you to assume the game, whatever it might be, will be for next-gen consoles. Keep in mind Persona 4 was released on PS2 in 2008, almost two years after PS3 had arrived.

Atlus was recently acquired by SEGA in a deal that is said to be "mutually beneficial for both sides." In an announcement to fans regarding the deal, Atlus indicated more information on the company's situation would be shared in the "near future."
