It's once again time to play "Can we trust the rumor mill?"
British tabloid The Daily Mail claims English actresses Emily Blunt (Looper) and Ruth Wilson (Luther) "are both hotly tipped" for the role of Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, in Marvel's The Avengers 2. Danvers was recently promoted from Ms. Marvel to Captain Marvel and given a new costume and comic series.
Now before we all scream "bull****" on this one, let's just remember that Blunt was initially offered the role of Black Widow in Iron Man 2 before having to drop out and that her husband, actor John Krasinski, was once a top contender for the role of Captain America.
Wilson is the female lead in one of Marvel parent company Disney's summer 2013 tentpoles, The Lone Ranger. In addition to starring on Luther with Thor's Idris Elba, she also starred in The Prisoner opposite Captain America's Hayley Atwell. So she's definitely an actress the Marvel casting people would be familiar with.
Joss Whedon will be back to write and direct Avengers 2, which opens May 1, 2015 .
