Battlefield: Bad Company Not in "Active Development"

Battlefield developer DICE has confirmed that it isn't currently working on a new entry in the Bad Company series.

The statement was made in response to a fan question about the Bad Company series on the franchise's Twitter.

@slayvapor We love the Bad Company series, but don't have it in active development. Battlefield 4 is our main focus for the year.

The last Bad Company game, Bad Company 2, was released back in 2010. Games in the subseries tend to have a larger focus on humour and single-player, while main series entries like Battlefield 3 have focused more on multiplayer as DICE tries to take down Call of Duty.

Having said this, the tweet doesn't mean Bad Company 3 isn't coming, just that it's not in "active development". This could mean another studio is handling the game, or it's simply on the backburner while the company prepares for the franchise to make its next-gen debut with Battlefield 4. The tweet specifically says DICE wants to focus on the game "for the year"; maybe 2014 is the year of Bad Company?

The company has said previously that both Bad Company and Mirror's Edge are "too good to kill". With the latter almost certainly making a comeback in the near future, could Bad Company be next?
