Those Idris Elba as James Bond Rumors are Back

The name's Elba, Idris Elba. Yes, the rumor mill is abuzz again that the Thor and Luther actor might succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond once the current 007 retires his license to kill. (Craig is currently slated to play the British secret agent through Bond 25.)

The rumors have made the rounds before, but this time they've been rekindled by none other than Skyfall actress Naomie Harris, who stars with Elba in the upcoming Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

In a chat with The Huffington Post, Harris revealed, "I didn’t realize that there was this talk and then I did a film with Idris [Elba] and he said that he met Barbara Broccoli [James Bond producer] and that it does seem like there is a possibility in the future that there could very well be a black James Bond. And I would have to vote for Idris because I just finished working with him and he’s a great guy."

Harris added that she wasn't even aware that Elba was a fellow Brit until she worked with as she only knew him from his role on The Wire.

While there might very well be a black James Bond in the future, Elba's age may work against him. Let's say Craig will be Bond for the next 4-6 years then that means Elba would be 46 years-old at the time he'd be cast as Bond. (Craig will be 50 at that point.)

This would tie Elba with Roger Moore, who was a boyish-looking 46 when he first played Bond. (Timothy Dalton was 43, Pierce Brosnan was 42, Sean Connery was 32, and George Lazenby was 30).

Elba was most recently seen onscreen in Prometheus and will soon be seen in Thor: The Dark World and Guillermo del Toro's sci-fi epic Pacific Rim.

XCOM Shooter May Now Be Third-Person, Downloadable

A new rumor suggests that 2K’s XCOM shooter may have changed perspectives. According to a tip sent to Kotaku, the long-delayed title may now be a third-person shooter instead of the first-person game originally revealed.

 

The information comes from a survey allegedly sent out by 2K to gauge interest in the title, reporting that XCOM is still “being developed by the same people who created BioShock 2" – namely, 2K Marin. The survey includes a few screenshots – some of which can be seen above – and suggests that the game would have players commanding a team of agents, “which you can order around the map to perform various actions.”

The survey also asks players how they’d feel about the game being released as a $30 downloadable title instead of a $60 retail game, and refers to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions but does not mention PC. The shift prompts comparisons to Ubisoft's I Am Alive, which similarly transitioned from a retail title to downloadable late last year.

Not to be confused with XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which will hit stores this week, XCOM was originally announced in 2010 as a “re-imagining” of the strategy franchise, putting players in the shoes of an FBI agent “trying to wipe out a mysterious threat.” It was said to be coming in 2011 during E3 2010 and was shown off at the convention, looking promising.

XCOM was later assigned a release date of March 2012 and shown off once again at E3 2011 with a “changed formula.” It was later delayed to 2013, and after months of radio silence, 2K once again delayed the title in May of this year, pushing it to “fiscal 2014,” which means any time between April 2013 and March 2014.

The change to a third-person downloadable title hasn’t been confirmed, but we’ve reached out to 2K and will update with any comment they provide. In the meantime, XCOM fans can look forward to the more traditional, strategy-based XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which hits Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on October 9th. Rebooted Batman to Debut in Justice League Movie?

Rumor has it that the live-action Justice League of America movie will also ostensibly serve as the reboot of Batman on the big screen.

Batman-on-Film reports that a "solid as they come" source tells them the Batman "reboot will come after the JL film, not before. Therefore, the new cinematic Batman will be introduced in the JL film as opposed to a solo film. This would ... assure the new Batman film series will be part of a 'DC Cinematic Universe.'"

The site cautions, however, that while their source is legit, they still advise readers to take the rumor "with a grain of salt" for now.

Next summer's Man of Steel is expected to be the final DC Comics movie until at least 2015, when scuttlebutt suggests the JLA film will be released.

JLA is being scripted by Will Beall. No director is currently involved, although recent reports claims the Wachowskis are high up on Warner Bros.' wish list to helm it.
